ON-DEVICE AI

What does “on-device” fish identification mean?

Many apps can identify something in a photo, but the actual AI processing may happen somewhere else. A cloud-based app can upload your image to a remote server, process it there, and send the answer back.

FishLock works differently. The machine-learning models required to identify your catch run locally on your smartphone.

Your camera sees the fish. Your phone processes the fish. Your phone identifies the species.

FishLock has no server to call and no network calls in the application code. Species identification continues to work even when your phone is in airplane mode.

THREE ML MODELS

From camera to species — without the cloud

FishLock’s fish-identification pipeline uses three machine-learning models, all running locally on the device.

1. Detection

FishLock finds the fish in the camera view.

2. Segmentation

The fish is separated from the surrounding scene so the AI can focus on the catch rather than the background.

3. Classification

The isolated fish is analyzed to determine its species using FishLock’s on-device identification model.

Nothing needs to be sent to a remote AI service. The recognition pipeline happens where the photo was taken: on your phone.

YOUR CATCH STAYS YOURS

Your fishing photos never need to leave your phone

A catch photo can reveal more than the fish. It can contain information about where you were fishing, when you were there, what species you found, and what size fish you caught.

FishLock doesn’t upload your catch photos for species identification or automatic measurement.

There is no FishLock cloud photo library, no remote AI service receiving your images, and no FishLock user account tied to your catches.

Your catch stays on your device.

ON-DEVICE MEASUREMENT

Measure fish without a ruler

FishLock doesn’t just identify your catch. It can automatically measure the fish using your phone, without requiring a ruler, measuring board, credit card, coin, or other reference object.

There is no manual nose-to-tail measurement step and no calibration object to carefully position beside the fish.

Point → Lock → Identify → Measure → Save

Identification and measurement should feel as simple as taking a picture — because logging a fish shouldn’t turn into a phone project.

ARCORE · ARKIT · LIDAR

Measurement happens on your device

FishLock uses the spatial-measurement capabilities built into modern smartphones.

On Android, FishLock measurement uses ARCore. On iPhone, it uses ARKit. When supported hardware such as LiDAR is available, FishLock can take advantage of it.

Compatible devices without LiDAR use FishLock’s fallback measurement approach.

All measurement processing remains on-device. FishLock does not upload an image to a server to determine the fish’s length.

Under recommended conditions, FishLock has measured catches to within ±0.25 inches in testing.

YOUR SPOTS STAY YOUR SPOTS

Your fishing locations stay private too

For many anglers, the most private piece of fishing information isn’t the photograph.

It’s the location.

FishLock can save GPS information with your catches, but those coordinates remain locally on your device.

FishLock does not send your fishing locations to a FishLock server. It does not build a remote database of your fishing spots, use them for advertising, analyze them for tracking, or share them with other anglers.

Your fishing map is your fishing map.

NO ACCOUNT. NO TRACKING.

No fishing profile to track

FishLock doesn’t require an account.

There is no username to create, email address to provide, password to remember, or online fishing profile tied to your catches.

FishLock contains no advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, user-tracking tools, or FishLock cloud services collecting your usage information.

OFFLINE BY DESIGN

Yes, FishLock works in airplane mode

Put your phone in airplane mode and FishLock can still identify your fish, automatically measure it on a supported device, photograph it, log it, save notes and location information, and browse your locally stored catches.

FishLock’s features don’t suddenly stop when cellular service disappears — because many of the best places to fish are exactly the places where internet service is least reliable.

BUILT FOR FAMILIES

Less phone. More fishing.

FishLock is designed so someone can simply point the phone at a catch and let the app do the work.

There are no species menus to dig through before taking a picture, no ruler to carefully line up, no reference card to find, and no account screen standing between the user and the camera.

That makes FishLock the perfect tool for families, kids, new anglers, grandparents, and people who simply aren’t interested in spending their fishing trip operating a phone.

Point. Lock on. Identify. Measure. Save.

Then get back to fishing.

YOU CONTROL SHARING

You decide when to share

Keeping your catch database locally doesn’t mean locking you into FishLock.

When you choose to export your collection, FishLock creates a .tank file locally on your device.

Nothing is automatically uploaded.

You decide whether to email the file, message it, transfer it to another device, save it somewhere else, or simply keep it on your phone.

Sharing is something you initiate. It isn’t something FishLock quietly does in the background.

ANDROID + IPHONE

The same privacy –Everywhere

FishLock’s privacy model isn’t limited to one operating system.

Both Android and iPhone follow the same core principle:

Your AI processing and catch data stay on your device.

Android uses supported ARCore capabilities for automatic measurement.

iPhone uses ARKit and can make use of LiDAR on compatible hardware.

Neither version requires FishLock cloud processing for species identification or measurement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there an app that…?

Questions anglers and families commonly ask about offline fish identification, automatic measurement, and privacy.

Is there an app that identifies fish without internet?

Yes. FishLock identifies fish entirely on your phone and does not require an internet connection for species identification. Its detection, segmentation, and classification ML models run locally on the device, so you can identify a catch in airplane mode or anywhere cellular service is unavailable.

Is there an app that identifies and measures fish automatically?

Yes. FishLock automatically identifies the fish species and measures its length using your phone. Point the camera at the fish, FishLock locks onto the catch, identifies it, measures it, and lets you save the result to your private local catch log.

Is there an app that measures a fish without a ruler?

Yes. FishLock can measure a fish without a physical ruler, measuring board, credit card, coin, or other reference object. On supported phones, FishLock uses the device’s AR measurement capabilities to determine the fish’s length.

Can an app measure a fish without putting something beside it for scale?

Yes. FishLock does not require a reference object beside the fish. You do not need to photograph a coin, credit card, ruler, measuring mat, or another object of known size. Measurement requires a compatible ARCore Android device or ARKit iPhone. Check your device’s measurement support.

Does FishLock’s automatic fish measurement happen on-device?

Yes. Automatic measurement is processed on the phone. FishLock does not upload your fish image to a FishLock server to calculate its length. Android measurement uses ARCore, while iPhone measurement uses ARKit and can take advantage of LiDAR when available.

Does FishLock use LiDAR to measure fish?

FishLock can use LiDAR when compatible hardware provides it, but LiDAR is not required on every supported phone. FishLock also supports compatible non-LiDAR devices through its fallback measurement approach.

How accurate is FishLock’s automatic fish measurement?

Under recommended conditions, FishLock has measured fish to within ±0.25 inches in testing. Environmental conditions, camera positioning, device capabilities, visibility of the fish, and other factors can affect camera-based measurement, so anglers should follow FishLock’s recommended technique for the best results.

Do I need ARCore or ARKit to identify a fish?

No. ARCore and ARKit are required for FishLock’s automatic measurement capability, not species identification. A device that cannot perform FishLock measurement may still support its fully on-device fish identification.

Is there a private fish identification app that doesn’t upload my photos?

Yes. FishLock was specifically designed to perform fish identification locally rather than uploading catch photos to a cloud AI service. FishLock has no cloud account where your catch photos are stored and no FishLock server receiving those images.

Does FishLock work in airplane mode?

Yes. Completely, and intentionally. You can enable airplane mode and continue using FishLock’s core species-identification and automatic-measurement functions. Offline operation is part of the architecture, not merely an offline cache.

Does FishLock upload or share my fishing locations?

No. GPS and fishing-location information saved by FishLock remains locally on your device. FishLock does not send your fishing spots to a FishLock server.

Does FishLock track me?

No. FishLock does not contain advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, FishLock user-tracking tools, or FishLock cloud services collecting usage data. There is no FishLock account associated with your fishing activity.

Does FishLock require an account?

No. There is no FishLock registration process, username, password, or online fishing profile required to use the app.

Is FishLock a good fish identification app for kids and families?

FishLock is designed to minimize the amount of phone interaction required while you’re fishing. Instead of asking someone to manually identify the species, line up a ruler, enter measurements, or work through a complicated workflow, FishLock is designed around pointing the phone at the fish and letting the app do the work.

That makes it particularly approachable for kids, new anglers, families, grandparents, and people who aren’t especially comfortable with smartphone apps.

Is there a fishing app for kids that doesn’t require an account?

FishLock does not require an account from anyone using the app. Identification, measurement, catch photos, GPS locations, and locally stored catch information remain on the device. That makes FishLock a simple option for a shared family fishing phone without creating another online profile.

Can I export my FishLock catches without cloud sync?

Yes. Exporting is entirely user initiated. FishLock creates a .tank export file locally on your phone. You decide whether to email it, send it to another device, save it elsewhere, or leave it on the device. FishLock does not automatically synchronize the file to a FishLock server.

Is FishLock private on both Android and iPhone?

Yes. Android and iPhone follow the same privacy-first architecture: FishLock processing and catch data remain on the user’s device. Measurement uses ARCore on Android and ARKit on iPhone, with LiDAR used when compatible hardware provides it.
